A Brief History
GWATFL was founded with the goal of supporting world language educators in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas. Initially formed as a grassroots network, it brought together language teachers who sought to collaborate and share effective practices. Over time, the organization has grown into a recognized leader in the region, offering a range of professional development opportunities, such as workshops, conferences, and webinars. Through these initiatives, GWATFL has fostered an environment where educators can continually refine their teaching practices, explore innovative strategies, and advocate for the critical importance of world language education. The organization has also become a vital resource for educators, offering a platform to exchange ideas and solutions for the challenges that arise in teaching world languages.
