Culture becomes meaningful when it is embedded within instruction rather than taught as an isolated topic. This session will share practical strategies for connecting cultural content with curricular goals while maintaining a clear focus on communication and proficiency. Grounded in ACTFL’s Core Practices, the workshop will highlight how educators can design lessons that provide comprehensible input, create opportunities for interpersonal communication, and support student language development through meaningful, contextualized experiences.
Participants will explore classroom examples that incorporate storytelling, interpretive tasks, and project-based learning to help students engage with language in ways that are relevant and personally meaningful. These approaches support students in building confidence, expressing ideas, and developing their ability to communicate with increasing independence. The session will include opportunities for reflection and collaborative planning, allowing educators to consider how these strategies can be applied within their own curriculum. Participants will leave with practical ideas to strengthen student engagement, deepen cultural understanding, and support continued growth in communicative proficiency. |
