The Greater Washington Association of Teachers of Foreign Language (GWATFL) invites you to participate in our Fall Conference, for language educators featuring sessions that focus on innovative programs, emerging trends and best practices.

Opening Session - Keynote Address:

Leslie Grahn has twenty-seven years of language teaching experience at the middle and high school levels and twelve years of
experience at the central office level, most recently as Coordinator of World Languages for the Howard County Public School System in Maryland. Leslie has been a course instructor on foreign language teaching methods and differentiated instruction and frequent presenter at state, regional, and national conferences, specializing in best practices, specifically hands-on, interactive strategies. She facilitates workshops on the topics of student engagement, rigor, authentic resources, and differentiated instruction. Leslie is the co-author of The Keys to Strategies for Language Instruction and serves on the boards of MFLA, NECTFL, and NADSFL. |

Using Authentic Text with Novice Language Learners
The recently published list of “Core Practices for Language Learning” by the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) includes “using authentic cultural texts.” In this session, participants will become familiar with what authentic texts are, how to use authentic texts with novice learners, and how to adapt tasks without altering authentic texts.

VISITOR ENTRANCE & PARKING
There are two parking spaces at Norwood School. Visitors are advised to park in any of the parking spaces. Norwood will have two security guards helping visitors if they do not find space in the parking lot. Parking spaces: There are two parking spaces. The one near River Road Entrance is the Middle School parking lot. The Lower School Parking lot is near the Bradley Boulevard Entrance. River Road Entrance Bradley Boulevard entrance (enter 8696 Bradley Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817 in your GPS) and use the parking lot on the right at the top of the hill.
