Featuring an Opening Session presented by staff from St. Andrew's School.
Among other responsibilities, Chantal Cassan-Moudoud and Maria R Diaz are, at heart, language teachers. That is their shared passion! Originally from France and Spain, respectively, they have both taught in North American institutions (USA and Canada) for the past twenty years. But it was in the last eight years that they experienced the most significant professional transformation. Guided by the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning and the advances in neuro-education, they both spearheaded a revolution in the way world languages are taught at St Andrew’s Episcopal School. Their Opening Session presentation will document their journey from a traditional grammar-driven curriculum to a program that favors communicative competence and cultural understanding; in their Language department mission words: what really matters is to “see the world through the eyes of others”.
Maria and Chantal will also offer a workshop session in Spanish titled "How to construct a language unit using backward design and a communicative understanding of language teaching and learning." Presentation Materials
